The Best Time to Send a Bulk WhatsApp Campaign

When to send WhatsApp broadcasts for the best read and reply rates, why send time matters more here than on email, and how to find your own window.

On email, a badly timed send gets opened later. On WhatsApp, it gets muted.

Quick answer: There is no universal best time, but there are reliable patterns: business-to-consumer messages perform in the early evening on weekdays, business-to-business messages mid-morning on Tuesday to Thursday, and almost nothing performs before 9am or after 9pm. The real answer comes from your own campaign reports, because read-time distribution varies enormously by audience.

Why timing matters more here than on email

An email that arrives at a bad moment sits in an inbox until the recipient is ready. A WhatsApp message arrives with a notification on a phone in someone’s hand, and if that moment is wrong the reaction is not "later", it is irritation.

That irritation is expensive. It converts into mutes, blocks and reports, all of which feed the quality rating Meta uses to set your daily messaging limit. Send timing is therefore a deliverability decision, not only a marketing one.

Patterns that hold across most audiences

These are starting points, not conclusions. A coaching centre messaging parents and a logistics firm messaging warehouse managers have almost nothing in common in this respect.

  • Consumer audiences: 6pm to 9pm on weekdays, and late morning at weekends
  • Business audiences: 10am to noon, Tuesday through Thursday
  • Avoid before 9am and after 9pm entirely, in the recipient’s own timezone
  • Avoid Monday morning, when everyone is clearing a backlog
  • Avoid Friday evening for anything requiring a considered response

Finding your own window from your own data

  1. Take a campaign that went to a reasonably large segment.
  2. Look at the gap between delivered and read timestamps rather than the send time.
  3. Note the hour where the read curve is steepest: that is when your audience actually looks.
  4. Run the next campaign an hour before that peak.
  5. Repeat over three campaigns before concluding anything, because a single send tells you about that day, not about your audience.

The timezone mistake

A list spanning India, the UAE and the UK cannot share one send time. Sending at 7pm IST puts the message into the UK afternoon and the UAE early evening, which is survivable, but the same schedule applied to a US segment lands in the middle of the night.

If you send internationally, store the contact’s country or timezone as a field and segment on it. It is a small amount of setup that prevents the single most damaging kind of badly timed send.

Timing cannot rescue frequency

Optimising send time on a list you message four times a week is polishing the wrong thing. Cadence drives the block rate far more than the hour does, and most businesses find two to four marketing messages a month is the ceiling before opt-outs climb.

Fix frequency first. Then optimise the hour.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time to send a WhatsApp broadcast?

For consumer audiences, early evening on weekdays; for business audiences, mid-morning Tuesday to Thursday. Both are starting points. The reliable answer comes from the read timestamps in your own campaign reports, which vary heavily by audience.

Does send time affect deliverability?

Indirectly but genuinely. A badly timed message produces mutes and blocks, and those lower the quality rating Meta uses to set your daily messaging limit. Poor timing costs future reach, not just this campaign’s response.

Should I send at the same time every campaign?

Once you have found a window that works, consistency helps: recipients come to expect it. What does not help is sending at a fixed hour chosen for internal convenience rather than from data.

How do I handle contacts in different timezones?

Store country or timezone as a contact field and segment on it, then schedule per segment. A single send time across continents guarantees some of your list receives it overnight.
