Hospitals run the most complex shift structure of any SMB workforce, 24x7 rotating, weekly off rotation by department, on-call doctor escalation, fixed nurse rosters and variable support-staff cover. The 2026 default is a hybrid: nurse-station kiosk mode for ward staff, personal-phone for doctors and admins, with rotating-shift logic baked into the roster engine.
Why hospital attendance is uniquely hard
Three factors. (1) 24x7 rotating shifts, morning 7-3, afternoon 3-11, night 11-7, with 6-day rotation and weekly off built into the rotation pattern. (2) On-call doctors, physically present in the hospital part of the day, on-call from home or another hospital the rest. (3) Code escalations, emergency response staff must be tracked for arrival time at code-blue/MLC events.
Nurse-station kiosk mode
Each ward has a nurse-station tablet running attendance in kiosk mode. Nurses check in at shift start, out at shift end; tea breaks and lunch breaks are tracked separately if policy requires. The kiosk's location is fixed inside the ward's geofence, with full anti-spoof checks active.
Doctor attendance + on-call
Doctors mark attendance on personal phones (consultant rounds, OPD slot start/end). For on-call duty, a separate "on-call" status is logged with response-time tracking, when a code call goes out, the on-call doctor's arrival at the hospital geofence is auto-stamped. SLA dashboards show response time per code event.
Support staff, housekeeping, security, transport
Housekeeping, ward boys, security, ambulance staff, mess and laundry each have their own shift pattern. All run on one roster with role-based shift policies, late-mark policy and OT rates.
HMIS integration
For hospitals running an HMIS (Hospital Management Information System) like MedTrak / eHospital / HMS, attendance data exports via CSV or API to populate the HMIS staff register. Payroll continues to run from WappBlaster; HMIS receives the attendance feed for clinical-care audit purposes.
Leave + comp-off
Doctors and nurses accrue earned leave, casual leave, sick leave plus compensatory off for days worked on weekly off. WappBlaster's Leave module handles all leave types with audit-trail visibility for medical superintendent reviews.
Compliance, clinical staff records
NABH-accredited hospitals require auditable attendance records for clinical and support staff. Audit-grade attendance with geofence, anti-spoof and signed offline queue meets the NABH evidence bar.
