UAE wps file in brief

A UAE WPS file, the Salary Information File or SIF, is what a private-sector employer uploads to its bank each pay cycle under the Wage Protection System run by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and WappBlaster's attendance-driven payroll generates it automatically at month-end. Each SIF lists the employee's labour-card ID, basic salary, housing and transport allowances, total salary and pay-period dates, and the bank checks it against the labour-card master before paying anyone. Five errors cause most rejections: names that differ from the labour card through Arabic transliteration, mistyped labour-card IDs, components that do not add up to the total, pay dates off the declared monthly cycle, and fils-versus-AED decimal slips. Keeping the labour-card master inside payroll removes the copy-paste where those errors start. All major UAE banks accept the standard format. The same run accrues end-of-service gratuity at 21 days of basic wage per year for the first 5 years and 30 thereafter, and can output India's PF ECR, ESI and PT challans too.

What is a UAE WPS SIF file?

A UAE WPS Salary Information File lists each employee's salary details for the Wage Protection System, and your bank uses it to pay staff once it passes labour-card validation.

WappBlaster's attendance-driven payroll generates compliant SIF files automatically and can work out end-of-service gratuity within that same payroll run.

  • A file that fails labour-card validation delays salaries and risks penalties.
  • Most rejections trace back to mismatched employee or account data.
  • UAE and India payroll can run together in a single cycle.

UAE wps file benefits

  • Salaries paid on time

A SIF that passes labour-card validation first time avoids delayed pay and penalty risk.

  • No copy-paste errors

Names, labour-card IDs and salary components all come from one payroll dataset.

  • Bank-ready format

Files follow the standard format accepted by every major UAE bank.

  • Gratuity worked out automatically

End-of-service amounts accrue every cycle and finalise on exit with leave salary.

  • India and UAE in one approval

One payroll run outputs the SIF plus the PF, ESI and PT files.

  • No extra payroll SKU

WPS generation is part of the Attendance Suite subscription.

The UAE Wage Protection System (WPS) is mandatory for private-sector salary payouts. Every cycle, you upload a Salary Information File (SIF) to your bank, and the bank disburses salary to each employee's account. If the file fails validation against labour-card data, salary is delayed and you risk regulatory penalties. This guide explains what the SIF needs to contain, the common rejection reasons, and how attendance-driven payroll software generates compliant files automatically.

What is the UAE WPS, exactly?

The Wage Protection System is administered by the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It mandates that employers pay salaries electronically through approved banks, using a SIF in a defined format that includes each employee's labour-card ID, basic salary, allowances (housing, transport), total salary and the pay-period dates.

The bank validates the SIF against the labour-card master before disbursing. Mismatches in name, labour-card ID or total salary cause file-level rejection.

Which UAE banks accept WPS SIF uploads?

All major UAE banks accept WPS SIF uploads, Emirates NBD, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB), Mashreq, Emirates Islamic, Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD) and others. The file format is standardised by the central bank; the upload portal differs per bank.

Common UAE WPS file rejection reasons

  1. Name mismatch with labour card, Arabic transliteration variants are the #1 cause. Resolve by reading the labour-card name field exactly into the SIF.
  2. Labour-card ID mismatch, typos on copy-paste from the labour-card system.
  3. Salary component split error, basic + housing + transport must equal total salary, with components matching the contract.
  4. Pay period misaligned, the file's pay-from / pay-to dates must match the regular monthly cycle declared on the labour card.
  5. Currency unit error, amounts in fils vs AED format; a single decimal-place mistake fails the file.

How attendance-driven payroll fixes WPS file pain

When attendance and labour-card data live in the same dataset, the SIF is generated automatically at month-end with the right name spellings, the right labour-card IDs and the right salary components. There is no manual copy-paste from one system to another, which is where the rejections originate.

WappBlaster's Payroll module maintains the labour-card master per employee, generates the SIF in the format accepted by your bank, and includes optional accommodation / transport / overtime splits where the contract requires them.

End-of-service gratuity in the same WPS file cycle

UAE labour law mandates end-of-service gratuity: 21 days of basic wage per year for the first five years of service, 30 days per year thereafter, capped at two years' wages. Modern payroll accrues gratuity each cycle and computes the final figure automatically on termination, alongside leave salary and leave encashment.

Running UAE + India payroll in one cycle

For groups with staff in both countries, the same payroll cycle should produce the UAE SIF and the India ECR (PF), ESI challan and PT challan. WappBlaster does this natively, one review, one approval, two compliant statutory files out the door.

UAE WPS file rules: who, what and when
Feature Rule Deadline Source
Private-sector employer Pay salaries electronically through an approved bank using a SIF Every monthly pay cycle Wage Protection System, Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation
Bank Validate the SIF against the labour-card master Before salary is disbursed Wage Protection System
SIF contents Labour-card ID, basic, allowances, total and pay dates; components must sum to the total Each upload Central bank standard format
Pay period Dates must match the monthly cycle on the labour card Each file Wage Protection System
Departing employee 21 days of basic wage a year for 5 years, 30 after, capped at 2 years of wages On termination UAE Labour Law

When UAE WPS file software is the wrong choice

  • Companies that pay staff only in India carry no WPS obligation, so a SIF workflow solves nothing for them.
  • If salaries are fixed and never depend on attendance, the attendance-driven part adds little, and any payroll tool that exports a valid SIF will do.

UAE WPS File Generation, A 2026 SMB Owner's Guide: questions

What is the UAE WPS SIF file?

The Salary Information File (SIF) is the standardised electronic file an employer uploads to their bank for monthly salary disbursement under the UAE Wage Protection System. It contains each employee's labour-card ID, basic wage, allowances, total salary and pay-period dates.

Does WappBlaster generate the SIF automatically?

Yes. The payroll module maintains the labour-card master per employee and produces a SIF in the format accepted by your UAE bank, with optional accommodation / transport / overtime splits as the contract requires.

Is end-of-service gratuity computed in the same cycle?

Yes. Each payroll cycle adds to the gratuity balance using the formula in UAE Labour Law: 21 days of basic wage for each of the first 5 years, 30 days for each year after that, with a ceiling of 2 years' wages. When someone leaves, the final amount is calculated automatically together with leave salary and leave encashment.

Is WPS support a paid add-on?

No. UAE WPS file generation is included in the Attendance Suite subscription alongside Indian statutory and the attendance, leave, expense and reports modules, not sold as a separate payroll SKU.

How do I fix a WPS name mismatch rejection?

Copy the employee's name exactly as the labour card shows it into the SIF. Arabic transliteration variants are the most common reason a file fails.

Link to this answer

What happens if a WPS file is rejected?

Salary payment is delayed until a corrected file passes the bank's validation, and repeated failures can expose the employer to regulatory penalties.
